Bioethics debate in Uppsala

Welcome to a day of talks, debates, expo and more.

In recent years the internet and the plummeting cost of microchips has completely transformed our society. In the same way, new powerful methods in biotechnology and rapidly falling costs of DNA sequencing and synthesis promises an equally great transformation of the world.

Uppsala iGEM 2013 presents a day dedicated to the future of synthetic biology and genetic engineering where everyone is welcome to participate.

There are many misconceptions today about what genetically engineered organisms (GMOs) actually are. What are the dangers of genetic engineering and can it be used to benefit mankind?

The conference is held on September 19th at the Ångströmlaboratoriet, Lägerhyddsvägen 1 in Uppsala, Sweden. See more on Facebook.

At 15.30 PM to 16.45 PM, Waldemar Ingdahl debates bioethics, GMO and synthetic biology with Mats G. Hansson (professor bioethics, Uppsala university), Anthony Foster (professor synthetic biology, Uppsala university), and Stefan Roos (professor microbiology, SLU-  Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences).

Mr. Ingdahl is author of the book Som egenmäktiga gudar and has written on several occasions about scientific values.
